The state government on Wednesday put two IAS officers, Ajay Kumar Singh and Pawan Kumar, in the wait list. Both are under the CBI scanner in the illegal sand mining case.

In a press release, the state government said that Ajay Kumar Singh, serving on the post of secretary, khadi and rural industries, and Pawan Kumar, serving on the post of special secretary, housing and urban planning, have been put in the wait list.

To recall, on Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case against Ajay Kumar Singh, Pawan Kumar and 10 others in connection with alleged illegal sand mining activities carried out between 2012 and 2015 in Saharanpur.

Out of the 10 individuals from Saharanpur who have been named in the FIR, one has already passed away.

The CBI teams had also raided 11 locations in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, including premises belonging to Singh and Kumar, who have served as district magistrates in Saharanpur. From Singh’s residence, the CBI personnel reportedly recovered Rs 15 lakh in cash as well as property documents.

The CBI has been probing illegal mining in Shamli, Hamipur, Saharanpur, Deoria, Fatehpur, Siddharthnagar and Kaushambi districts since 2017 on the orders of the Allahabad high court.
