Shillong’s Them ïew Mawlong settlers get fresh notice

Fresh notices were served to those residing at Them ïew Mawlong in pursuance of an order passed by the Meghalaya High Court last month.

On June 28, the division bench comprising of the chief justice Ajay Kumar Mittal and justice HS Thangkhiew passed an order after hearing a review petition filed by the Meghalaya government against the Harijan Panchayat Committee/Punjabi Harijan Colony & others.

The High Court has directed occupants/residents of the area (Them ïew Mawlong) to cooperate in furnishing the requisite information to the State.

Sources said that fresh notices have been served by the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) on Monday to all the residents of Them ïew Mawlong directing them to furnish documents within one month by August 30.

The notices were issued in continuation with the general public notice issued by the Board on May 31 and in pursuance of the order passed by the Meghalaya High Court.

On May 31, the Board had issued notices to over 300 households at Them ïew Mawlong and asked them to submit documents within one month from June 3 to July 3.

Earlier, the report of an inventory survey listed a total of 184 employees and their families as legal settlers which include families of 128 employees of the Shillong Municipal Board and 56 others working in the different departments of the state government.
