If you shared an OTP by mistake, act quickly to reduce the risk of financial loss or account misuse. First, do not share any further OTPs, passwords, PINs, or banking details with anyone. If the OTP was related to a bank, UPI, credit card, or payment account, immediately contact the bank or service provider through its official customer-care channel and ask them to secure or temporarily block the affected account or service.
Change the password of the affected account, especially if you also shared other login information. Check recent transactions, login activity, and account settings for anything suspicious. If you notice an unauthorized transaction, report it to your bank immediately and file a cybercrime complaint with the relevant authorities. Keep screenshots, messages, phone numbers, transaction details, and other evidence for the investigation.
An OTP by itself does not always mean your account has been compromised, but because it is used to authorize or verify certain actions, responding quickly is important.
