{"id":2600,"date":"2018-04-27T06:52:58","date_gmt":"2018-04-27T06:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/?p=2600"},"modified":"2018-04-27T06:52:58","modified_gmt":"2018-04-27T06:52:58","slug":"supreme-court-upholds-shibu-sorens-acquittal-in-a-1994-murder-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/supreme-court-upholds-shibu-sorens-acquittal-in-a-1994-murder-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court upholds Shibu Soren&#8217;s acquittal in a 1994 murder case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source &#8211;\u00a0indiatimes.com<\/p>\n<p>NEW DELHI: The\u00a0Supreme Court\u00a0today upheld the\u00a0Delhi high court\u00a0verdict acquitting JMM supremo Shibu\u00a0Soren\u00a0in connection with the murder of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha in 1994.<br \/>\nA bench of Justices A K Goel and R F Nariman refused to interfere with the Aug 22, 2007, verdict of the high court which had set aside the trial court judgement holding Soren, former Union minister, guilty in the case.<\/p>\n<p>The CBI and Jha&#8217;s family members had challenged the high court verdict which had held that the probe agency has miserably failed in getting evidence against the veteran tribal leader.<\/p>\n<p>The high court had also acquitted four others \u2014 Nand Kishore Mehta, Shailendra Bhattacharya, Pashupati Nath Mehta and Ajay Kumar Mehta &#8212; of all the charges on the same grounds.<\/p>\n<p>A Delhi trial court had on November 28, 2006 convicted Soren and four others for abduction and murder of Jha. The order on sentencing was pronounced on December 5, 2006.<\/p>\n<div class=\"last2brdiv\">\u00a0Jha had gone missing from\u00a0Dhaula Kuan\u00a0area of south Delhi on May 22, 1994.
