{"id":2815,"date":"2018-06-12T06:07:41","date_gmt":"2018-06-12T06:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/?p=2815"},"modified":"2018-06-12T06:07:41","modified_gmt":"2018-06-12T06:07:41","slug":"illegal-telephone-exchange-case-cbi-challenges-discharge-of-maran-brothers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/illegal-telephone-exchange-case-cbi-challenges-discharge-of-maran-brothers\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal telephone exchange case: CBI challenges discharge of Maran brothers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source &#8211;\u00a0indiatimes.com<\/p>\n<p>CHENNAI: Three months after a special court for\u00a0CBI\u00a0cases discharged former Union minister\u00a0Dayanidhi Maran\u00a0and his elder brother Kalanidhi Maran from the decade-old\u00a0illegal telephone exchange case, the CBI has approached the\u00a0Madras high court\u00a0challenging it.<\/p>\n<p>Admitting the criminal revision petition, Justice G Jayachandran ordered notice to\u00a0Maran brothers\u00a0and seven others accused in the case returnable by June 20.<\/p>\n<p>On March 14, special judge Natarajan said he was discharging all the seven accused from the case since there was no prima facie evidence to prove the charges against them.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CBI, Dayanidhi Maran, during the check period of June 2004 to December 2006, when he was Union minister for communication and information technology, had misused his office and installed a private telephone exchange at his residences in Chennai and utilised the facility for business transactions involving Sun Network.It said he had caused a loss of Rs 1.78 crore to the exchequer.
