{"id":2898,"date":"2018-06-29T06:18:50","date_gmt":"2018-06-29T06:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/?p=2898"},"modified":"2018-06-29T06:18:50","modified_gmt":"2018-06-29T06:18:50","slug":"tn-to-seek-freedom-for-rajiv-case-convicts-in-supreme-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/tn-to-seek-freedom-for-rajiv-case-convicts-in-supreme-court\/","title":{"rendered":"TN to seek freedom for Rajiv case convicts in Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHENNAI: The\u00a0Tamil Nadu\u00a0government will continue too seek freedom for the seven people convicted of killing former prime minister\u00a0Rajiv Gandhi\u00a0in the\u00a0Supreme Court\u00a0in line with the policy decision taken by it, a top government functionary said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will put forth our arguments in the Supreme Court to free them and this is in line with the policy decision of the government,&#8221; he told PTI on condition of anonymity when asked to comment on media reports that the Centre has rejected Tamil Nadu&#8217;s plea for their release.<\/p>\n<p>According to news reports, the Centre has told the Tamil Nadu government that it does not concur with the state&#8217;s stand on releasing the convicts, who are in jail for the last 25 years, as it would set a bad precedent.<\/p>\n<p>The convicts are: V Sriharan (alias Murugan), A G Perarivalan (alias Arivu), T Suthendraraja (alias Santhan), Jayakumar, Robert Payas, Ravichandran and Nalini.<\/p>\n<p>Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated at an election rally at\u00a0Sriperumbudur\u00a0near here on May 21, 1991 by a woman suicide bomber.
