The petition came up for hearing before the bench of Justices RF Nariman and Vineet Saran.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"o-story-content__related o-story-content__related--large\">\n<div class=\"m-gutter-tout\">\n<div class=\"m-advert m-advert--border-top m-advert@medium+--border-bottom m-advert--small\" data-behavior=\"advert\">\n<div class=\"m-advert__inner\">\n<div id=\"gpt_ad_IE_ROS_AS_BTF1\" class=\"ie-dfp-300x250\" data-google-query-id=\"CMmOlJCPhuECFVERaAodAhcNyw\">\n<div id=\"andbeyond3002\" data-google-query-id=\"CPuAq_mPhuECFQ7zjwod4oUAVw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/21751243814\/324113-300-250-2_0__container__\">\u201cDo you really want to argue this? We will hear you but we will pass strictures against you.\u201d Justice Nariman asked the petitioner\u2019s counsel.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The petitioner responded with a \u201cno\u201d and the petition was dismissed, reported<em>\u00a0Bar &amp; Bench<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Muslims make up 14.2% of the population in India which identifies itself as a secular country.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the top court issued a notice on a plea seeking expunction of remarks in a Meghayala High Court judgment which read \u201cPakistan declared themselves as an Islamic country and India since was divided on the basis of religion should have also been declared as a Hindu country but it remained as a secular country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A bench comprising Chief Justice\u00a0Ranjan Gogoi\u00a0and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued a notice to the HC registrar on the plea filed by Advocate Sona Khan and others, who contended that the judgment authored by Justice S R Sen was \u201clegally flawed and historically misleading\u201d.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"o-story-content__related\">\n<div class=\"m-gutter-tout\">\n<div class=\"m-gutter-tout__content\">\n<div class=\"m-article-tall@small+ m-article-wide@xsmall m-block-link\">\n<div class=\"m-article-tall@small+__inner m-article-wide@xsmall__inner\">\n<h4 class=\"m-article-tall@small+__title m-article-wide@xsmall__title\"><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"IE_Desk_1602\">\n<div id=\"andbeyond1602\" data-google-query-id=\"CLz-lpKQhuECFUvMjgod8PQP7w\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/21751243814\/324113-160-600-2_0__container__\">The top court had earlier in 2017 also declined to entertain another plea seeking minority status for Hindus in seven states and one Union Territory where the community numbers have fallen according to the 2011 Census.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The petitioner had claimed that \u201caccording to 2011 Census, Hindus are in minority in Lakshadweep (2.5%), Mizoram (2.75%), Nagaland (8.75%), Meghalaya (11.53%), J&amp;K (28.44%), Arunachal Pradesh (29%), Manipur (31.39%) and Punjab (38.40%)\u201d.
