{"id":4294,"date":"2019-06-08T13:00:34","date_gmt":"2019-06-08T13:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/?p=4294"},"modified":"2019-06-08T13:00:34","modified_gmt":"2019-06-08T13:00:34","slug":"former-kolkata-top-cop-rajeev-kumar-deposes-before-cbi-in-saradha-chit-fund-scam-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/former-kolkata-top-cop-rajeev-kumar-deposes-before-cbi-in-saradha-chit-fund-scam-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Kolkata Top Cop Rajeev Kumar Deposes Before CBI in Saradha Chit Fund Scam Case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Source: news18.com<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kolkata:<\/strong> Former Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, \nRajeev Kumar on Friday appeared before the CBI court for a hearing in \nthe Saradha chit fund scam case.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kumar reached the CGO Complex at DF Block in Kolkata\u2019s Salt Lake City around 10.30 AM in the ongoing probe into the Ponzi scam.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CBI had earlier demanded custodial interrogation of Kumar \nbefore the Supreme Court (SC), serving him several notices for allegedly\n suppressing facts in the Saradha scam case.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On May 30, in a major relief to Kumar, the Calcutta High Court \ngranted him conditional protection from arrest for a month. The CBI \ncannot thus arrest him till June 30 but he will be available for \nexamination if required by CBI sleuths. The next hearing in this matter \nwill be on June 12.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On May 21, the Supreme Court rejected Kumar\u2019s petition for a special\n bench to hear his request to extend the seven-day protection against \narrest in the case.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kumar had earlier filed the petition due to lawyers strike in \nKolkata since the first week of this month and Election Commission\u2019s \nrefusal to allow him leave for more than two days.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, on May 17, a three-judge bench headed by CJI Ranjan \nGogoi had withdrawn the arrest protection order that he had been \naccorded on February 5.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to this, Kumar had been removed from the post of ADG CID in\n West Bengal by Election Commission and transferred to the Union Home \nMinistry in Delhi.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poll body move had for the first time invoked Article 324 to \nremove Rajeev Kumar and West Bengal\u2019s Principal Secretary (Home) Atri \nBhattacharya as they also curtailed campaigning in the state.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kumar is a 1989 batch IPS officer of West Bengal and had earlier \nworked as Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate and\n as Special Task Force (STF) chief under the Kolkata Police.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was also one of the members of the Special Investigation Team \n(SIT) formed to investigate the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams \nthat had surfaced in 2013.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kumar recently hits the headlines for having a standoff with the \nCBI after the central agency officers went to his Loudon Street \nresidence in South Kolkata for &#8220;secret operation&#8221;. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the CBI, Kumar needs to be questioned regarding missing documents and files in chit fund scams.\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-background-color\">\n\t\t\t  <div \n\t\t\t  \tclass = \"fb-comments\" \n\t\t\t  \tdata-href = \"https:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/former-kolkata-top-cop-rajeev-kumar-deposes-before-cbi-in-saradha-chit-fund-scam-case\/\"\n\t\t\t  \tdata-numposts = \"5\"\n\t\t\t  \tdata-lazy = \"true\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-colorscheme = \"light\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-order-by = \"social\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-mobile=true>\n\t\t\t  <\/div><\/div>\n\t\t  <style>\n\t\t    .fb-background-color {\n\t\t\t\tbackground:  !important;\n\t\t\t}\n\t\t\t.fb_iframe_widget_fluid_desktop iframe {\n\t\t\t    width: 100% !important;\n\t\t\t}\n\t\t  <\/style>\n\t\t  ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: news18.com Kolkata: Former Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Rajeev Kumar on Friday appeared before the CBI court for a hearing in the Saradha chit fund scam case.
