The petition sought changes in\u00a0the Gujarat Professional Medical Educational Courses (Regulation of Admission) Rules, 2017. The rules made a certain minimum NEET score mandatory for Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery\u00a0(BAMS) and Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) courses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 26px; font-size: 16px; word-wrap: break-word; outline: 0px; color: #000000; text-align: justify;\">In the petition, the\u00a0students had submitted that until 2016, those seeking admission to the two courses only required 50 per cent marks in Class 12 board exam and appear in Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET). The students said that they had appeared for GUJCET but not NEET as they were not interested in applying for other courses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 26px; font-size: 16px; word-wrap: break-word; outline: 0px; color: #000000; text-align: justify;\">However, the rules changed\u00a0making NEET clearance mandatory, the petition said. The government, however, said that all the Class 12 students had been informed about the changes in advance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 26px; font-size: 16px; word-wrap: break-word; outline: 0px; color: #000000; text-align: justify;\">As per the reports, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board released a press note on March 8, 2017, stating that GUJCET, which was earlier mandatory for the two courses, will only be conducted for engineering and pharmacy courses.
