Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed the petition which sought removal of Z plus security of one of richest men in world Mukesh Ambani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A resident of Andheri area of Maharashtra’s Mumbai, Himanshu Agrawal had approached the Bombay High Court with his plea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A charted accountant by profession, Agarwal had stated that giving a security to Ambani and his family was a burden on the state and the tax payers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Agarwal’s petition stated that Special Protection Group (SPG) protection was given to the prime minister while Z+ security was given to people with high threat perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Z+ security entails security by National Security Guard (NSG) commandos with MP5 guns, modern gadgets and a convoy, stated the petition filed by Agarwal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The petition alleged that there was no threat perception to the family as it was not in politics and thus no reason for ideological conflict or another conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“There has never been an incident of attack or attempt to attack on them [Ambanis],”<\/strong> stated the petition adding that CEOs of big business houses provide for their own security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The petition highlighted that the ratio of policemen to citizens was already low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “One cop for 666 persons”<\/strong> and “three cops per VIP”<\/strong>, stated the petition while harping that rapes are happening in country because of lack of police cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With this Agarwal stated that he was filing the petition in the interest of public at large and thus it was a public interest litigation (PIL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, the chief public prosecutor in court, Deepak Thackeray, objected on the maintainability of the petition. A lawyer representing the Ambanis submitted that there was no burden on the tax payers as the entire security was paid for by the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Upon hearing this, the division bench headed by justice Ranjit More dismissed the petition.<\/p>\n
