{"id":8837,"date":"2020-01-08T07:08:15","date_gmt":"2020-01-08T07:08:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/?p=8837"},"modified":"2020-01-08T07:08:15","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T07:08:15","slug":"allahabad-high-court-takes-cognisance-of-situation-in-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wakilsahab.in\/news\/allahabad-high-court-takes-cognisance-of-situation-in-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Allahabad high court takes cognisance of situation in UP."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Source &#8211;  telegraphindia.com<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allahabad High Court on Tuesday took cognisance of the \u201csituation in Uttar Pradesh\u201d and registered a public interest litigation (PIL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Vivek Varma took suo moto cognisance of incidents that took place in the state after the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, was enacted, including the widespread protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court, which sought to convert an email from Bombay High Court lawyer Ajay Kumar into a PIL, cited news reports from Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referring to the email, the court said: \u201cIt is alleged that the situation in the State of Uttar Pradesh is antithetical to core constitutional values and warrants interference of this Court.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In December, Uttar Pradesh witnessed violent protests in several cities over the citizenship law and the state\u2019s brutal response. News reports from multiple media outlets, including this website, revealed a saga of barbaric police action in many instances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same bench heard another writ petition on Tuesday on the \u201calleged display of police brutality upon students who were protesting\u201d against the law. The petition demanded an investigation into the police crackdown in Aligarh Muslim University on December 15 by a special investigation team consisting of independent police officers for a fair investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its response, the Uttar Pradesh police had countered that the petition didn\u2019t represent true facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving no other option, the district administration decided to enter into University campus to disburse gathering and preventing the property from being damaged. In the course of action, 26 persons were arrested and some of them were found injured,\u201d the police had said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bench, however, refused to constitute a special team.
