Many questions continue to agitate people as the Gaya police claimed to have almost solved the sensational rape case, in which a minor girl of class 10 was brutally assaulted and her modesty outraged last Monday.

Physically-challenged Abhinay alias Mantu Yadav, the main accused, has claimed to have entered into a sexual relationship with the minor girl, but with her consent. The victim had also denied any hand of Mantu Yadav initially, but later named him as the main accused for reasons, which are unclear. Besides, recovery of letters of the girl from Yadav’s house, suggest that the two knew each other.

Gaya police lodged an FIR with the Muffasil police station Tuesday on the statement of the girl and forwarded the accused to Gaya central jail after interrogation.

Yadav denied serving any intoxicating substance to the girl, but said the sex was consensual. Did the family coerce the girl into filing a statement against him, is also not known.

The circumstances and the situation are also questionable. The victim attended a farewell at her school with the sister of the accused and set out for home with Yadav who treated her to Chinese cuisine at a restaurant. The police have not factored whether it was possible for a physically challenged person to carry the unconscious girl to dump her. The girl has stated, she was assaulted in her unconsciousness and the question remains, how could she ascribe the rape to Yadav.

An eyewitness woman had claimed that three boys carried the girl in an autorickshaw and dumped her near Gorakshini locality in a bush and the trio visited the spot again to check whether she was dead or alive.Gaya police still have not identified them.

ASP Baliram Chaudhary, heading the SIT constituted by Gaya SSP Garima Malik, said: “ We have almost solved the case and the accused has been put behind bars. We are still banking on the statement of the victim girl and also the confession of the accused. Besides, we have also recovered bloodstained clothes of the accused from his house. We are only awaiting medical reports for confirmation whether the girl was drugged. Other things are still under investigation, he said.
