Hiding criminal complaint is very serious: Delhi High Court

NEW DELHI: In an interesting turn of events the Delhi High Court on Wednesday stated that concealment of an old criminal case against the newly elected President of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) is “very serious”.

Rocky Tuseed the presidential candidate of the Congress’s student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) whose candidature was cancelled days before the elections on different grounds is back in the ring after winning the elections. But in an interim order he was later allowed to contest.

The FIR which was filed in 2014 under section 608 (culpable homicide) among others by a student of Delhi University who has alleged assault by Tussed in the complaint.

This information was brought to light by the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) candidate Rajat Chaudhary who lost the elections.

“It is very serious. It is concealment,” Justice Indermeet Kaur said while issuing a notice to Tuseed and Delhi University on an impleadment application filed by Chaudhary.

The application was filed in a pending petition by Tuseed in which he has challenged the Delhi University (DU) Election Commission’s order rejecting his nomination for the polls on the grounds of disciplinary action. Tuseed has to respond to the plea by November 15th.

However, the NSUI in their defense has stated this as a ‘misuse of government machinery’ saying “NSUI will not bow down to fascist forces who are misusing government machinery to malign its image. We have complete confidence in the judiciary. BJP will do a good job to face us in a democratic contest and not through frivolous pleas” said Neeraj Mishra spokesperson NSUI.
