Mandana Karimi, an ex-Bigg Boss contestant and model-actor, has filed a case of domestic violence against her husband of six months Gaurav Gupta. It was earlier reported that she had also filed for divorce, as well as asked for a compensation of Rs 2 crore and monthly maintenance of Rs 10 lakh.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Karimi has now clarified that she has not filed for divorce from Gupta. The couple got engaged in July 2016 and married in January 2017.

Speaking about how she was thrown out of the house, she mentioned that the couple had an argument, after which she went to a friend’s house to cool down. When she returned, she was not allowed to enter and the family stopped communicating with her.

She has been living at hotels and her friends’ houses for seven weeks now, and expressed concern about the lack of money to survive. She said that her family, which is based in Iran where she is originally from, is unable to fly down to India to help her. She added that she has no place to live, and that she is not in touch with any of her fellow contestants from reality show Bigg Boss, so they are probably unaware of her plight. She alleged that she was forced to give up her career at the behest of her husband, who did not agree to let her work in television or films. Previously, Karimi has starred in films like Roy, Bhaag Johnny and Main Aur Charles, and played the lead role in Kya Kool Hai Hum 3. She added that this decision to stop working was “not the smartest option”.

In previous reports, she has been quoted saying that she was forced to give her career up because it was “incompatible” with the Gupta family’s status in the society.

Mandana Karimi also claimed that she was harassed by her mother-in-law and forced to covert to Hinduism — a precondition before the marriage which she had to follow despite her own wishes. Despite this, she asserts that she still loves him. “I didn’t leave my house, I love it. I haven’t been allowed to enter the house or even my husband’s office but that doesn’t mean I should get divorced. I am still his wife, I love Gaurav. I haven’t filed for divorce, I have only filed a domestic violence case,” she said.

She has also mentioned in the past that attempts at reconciliation with the Gupta family have failed. Her lawyer has reported the case in the court and the case will be heard at the Andheri metropolitan court on 15 July.

In her application for Bigg Boss, Karimi mentioned that she hails from Iran and that she had come to India in 2012 to pursue modelling, and that she had met Gupta through a common friend.
