NEET 2017:Age Limit Verdict Out, SC instructs CBSE to allow students above 25 years

The Supreme Court has directed CBSE to allow students above 25 years to apply online for the NEET  UG exam. The MCI and CBSE said that since the last date is already closed it will be difficult. The Counsel (petitioner) stated that in absence of regulation by Medical Council for India the age limit cannot be fixed.  The petitioner also submitted that there are few students that after graduation are desirous to give NEET examination. The  Supreme Court also stated that  all eligible candidates  can  fill the application form for the NEET  examination on online portal of CBSE by April 5.

The Oversight Committee on the Medical Council of India, had also recommended removal of age cap sighting “shortage of doctors in the country” as the reason. Dr Saiyam Bhardwaj, joint secretary, CBSE assured SupremeCourt that online portal will be open by today evening March 31. With matters related to exam centre, the Supreme Court said that if any high court has already passed any order contrary to this order, this order will overrule. The MCI general body meeting was held on March 29.

This year NEET 2017 exam will be held on May 7. The entrance examination will be conducted in 10 languages— Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya and Kannada. Earlier on March 29, students had protested outside the MCI office at New Delhi. CBSE will provide All India Rank, the NEET result will be given to DGHS, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India to provide the same to admitting authorities. The admitting  authorities will  invite  applications  for  counseling  and  merit  list will be drawn based on All India Rank by the admitting authorities subject to their applicable rules.
