Polavaram: AP Govt Has No Right To Terminate Project

The Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) constituted by the Union Jal Shakti ministry found fault with YSRCP government for appointing an experts committee to probe the allegations of corruption. The PPA has submitted a 18 pages report to the concerned ministry on the progress and other aspects of the project.

PPA in its report mentioned that the state government has no right to terminate contracts yet it did without the consent of project authority. “Polavaram is a national project and the entire funding is being taken care by Union government. The experts committee appointed by state government is not valid and despite the PPA advising not to terminate the contracts as it would escalate the budget further up, the state government went ahead,” said PPA CEO RK Jain in his report.

This report came days of the Prime Minister’s Office had summoned Andhra government’s principal advisor Kallam Ajay Reddy and YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Sai Reddy who went on to say that they are doing things with PM Modi’s blessing. Also on August 13th, PPA held an emergency meeting in Hyderabad and expressed complete satisfaction on the progress and Navayuga company which is responsible for head works and hydel power plant.

Navayuga has already approached the AP High Court for giving pre-closure notice to them and the court has reserved the AP government’s decision.

Overall, the PPA report and AP High Court’s decisions look like YSRCP government has messed up Polavaram project and it will take certain time to clear the hurdles. PPA is doing all that is needed to resume the construction of the project.
