The Supreme Court Of India today ordered the central government to deport illegal Bangladeshi aliens in the country and seal the border to stop their influx, Defence News (DN) reported.

The Court had earlier asked the government to prepare a status report on the progress in fencing the international border with Bangladesh. According to the news portal, a bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and R F Nariman examined the status report and said that Madhukar Gupta committee would supervise it. This committee was setup after the Pathankot airbase attack to suggest ways to strengthen vigil and security on the border.

Tomorrow, Expenditure and Finance Committee will meet to decide on Assam government’s request of grant of about Rs 3 crore for ramping up border infrastructure in the state, the DN reported.

Postponing the matter for next hearing on 29 April, the bench impressed on the government that it wants this work of border fencing to be done quickly as the integrity and sovereignty of the nation was at stake.

Earlier, the apex court had ordered the Centre “to detect and deport all illegal migrants who have come to Assam after March 25, 1971 and hold discussions with the Bangladesh government to ensure that illegal migrants are sent back.”
