Woman, harassed by husband, gets divorce

THANE: The Thane District and Sessions court has dissolved the marriage of a school teacher from Los Angeles, with a woman from Mira-Bhayander. The court presided by additional sessions judge M C Khadke stated in its order that the marriage of the petitioner and respondent has been dissolved on the ground of cruelty as per relevant sections of the Divorce Act.

The petitioner (name withheld), a resident of Mira-Bhayander stated in her complaint that her marriage was solemnized with the respondent Jally Ebenezer in accordance with Christian tradition in Hyderabad in 2007. After the wedding, they began staying together in Hyderabad. Ebenezer then left for the USA. When the petitioner went to USA, after waiting at the airport for two hours, the respondent arrived with one Smriti Mulki, who he introduced as his friend. They both started to harass her henceforth. She was also harassed by the respondent’s colleague, over dowry. The petitioner also said that they had no children and in spite of a legal notice for mutual divorce and Rs 2 lakh maintenance, the respondent refused to pay up and make arrangement for a separate residence. On these grounds, she appealed for dissolution of the marriage.

After listening to both the sides, the judge agrred to dissolve the marriage.
